Football

After a bye last week, the Greenies are hosting down-the-street The Willow School at Lupin Field on Friday (9/26), with a kickoff at 7pm for Homecoming and a non-district contest. The Lions are 3-0 so far this season and feature a much-improved and seasoned offense that has averaged better than 50 points per game, returns 12 seniors, and beat our rival Metairie Park Country Day School by the score of 33-20.

Please come out early and loud to support the Greenies and take part in the Homecoming festivities!

Cross Country

The Newman cross country team had an excellent Saturday (9/20) in Ruston, Louisiana at the Cedar Creek Invitational. It was a gorgeous day in North Louisiana, and eleven of the fourteen varsity runners achieved new lifetime bests.

Both the Varsity Boys' and Girls' teams finished third place overall, and both the JV Boys' and Girls' teams came in first place.

We could not have hoped for a better weekend!

Volleyball

Last Week’s Highlights

It was another strong and exciting week for Greenie volleyball. On Tuesday, all three teams defended their home court with solid wins over Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy.

The JV Green and JV White teams set the tone early, showing discipline in serve receive and consistent energy from start to finish.

Varsity then followed with a commanding performance, controlling the pace of play and closing out another victory in straight sets.

The week continued with a big test as the Varsity squad traveled to Ruston, Louisiana for the annual Bearcat Brawl tournament. Over two days of play, Newman went an impressive 5-0, dropping only two sets across the entire weekend. The team collected convincing wins against C.E. Byrd High School, Northwood High School, Parkway High School, Ruston High School, and Haughton High School.

The Greenies combined strong defense, steady setting, and aggressive hitting to stay in control throughout the event. This undefeated run helped Newman climb the state rankings, with VSN now placing Newman at 15th in the state and third in Division IV, behind only John Curtis Christian School and The Dunham School.

Adding to the excitement of the week, outside/middle hitter Caroline Beahm verbally committed to play college volleyball at Loyola University New Orleans.

Congratulations Caroline and go Wolf Pack!

This Week Ahead

The action continues with a packed schedule.

Wednesday: Four teams will take the court at Newman in a busy evening of volleyball. At 4:30pm in the Contonio Palaestra, the 8th grade and JV Green will take on Archbishop Chapelle High School, followed by Varsity around 5:30pm. Meanwhile, JV White will face Chalmette High School in the Tuohy Gymnasium at 4:30pm. With both gyms in use, it will be a great opportunity for fans to see the depth of the program in action.

Weekend: Both JV squads will travel to Fontainebleau High School to compete in a tournament. The event will give younger players a chance to test themselves against strong competition and continue to build confidence for the season ahead.
