Last Week’s Highlights
Despite a wave of sickness impacting the team, Newman’s volleyball program demonstrated resilience across all squads. At Chalmette High School and in the home opener against Ponchatoula High School, the three-team program—Varsity, JV Green, and JV White—achieved a combined 6-0 record, with strong performances from each team.

The varsity squad then traveled to Dutchtown High School for a challenging tournament, finishing with a 2-2 record. They secured wins against East Ascension High School and Thomas Jefferson High School, but faced a tough loss to St. Joseph’s Academy. The weekend concluded with a thrilling match against The Dunham School, where Newman fell just short, 13-15, in the final set.
Player Spotlight
A historic milestone was reached this week: Senior Caroline Beahm recorded her 1,000th career kill. Beahm becomes the first middle in Newman history to reach that mark as quickly as she did. The captain’s consistency, leadership, and presence at the net continue to set the standard for the program. Congratulations Caroline! | ![]() NewmanAthleticsPhotos.com |
This Week Ahead
Tuesday: All three teams face Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy at home, starting at 4:30pm.
Wednesday: JV White travels to compete in the Northshore League.
Friday & Saturday: Varsity heads to Ruston, Louisiana, for a competitive five-match tournament hosted by Ruston High School.
Looking Forward
With momentum from early wins, hard-fought battles, and a career milestone already achieved, Newman’s volleyball program is building confidence for another exciting week of competition. Go Greenies!
Cross Country
On Saturday (9/13), the Greenies traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the Episcopal High School RoundTable Run at Highland Road Community Park. Overall, Newman's runners ran an impressive race with 10 runners achieving new career bests.
Senior Rivers Lelong led the Varsity Boys team with an exhilarating 13th place finish. He crushed his previous personal record (PR) by over 20 seconds with a time of 15:53. Nice work, Rivers! | ![]() Rivers LeLong ‘26, September 13, 2025 |

Football
The Greenies hosted Riverside Academy at Lupin Field for the second regular season game of the season. Despite a hard fought battle, improvement on both offense and defense, and multiple rallying points, the Greenies fell to the Rebels 19-13.
The offense showed great improvement this week. Senior captain quarterback Jake Randle completed 8 of 19 passing attempts for 101 yards and two passing touchdowns. Senior captain wide receiver George Loop totalled five catches for 66 yards and ran a beautiful fade route in the end zone for one of the touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Collier Villere brought in an important 21-yard reception when needed, and freshman wide receiver Jayce Irving caught his first high school touchdown.

The new run-pass option approach also improved this week as Randle carried 15 times for 124 yards on the ground, including a nice 31-yard run. Senior kicker Jack “Goose” Falgoust nailed a PAT, leading to the final Newman tally of 13.
The Green Machine Defense left their hearts on the field in a hard fought matchup against an experienced Riverside offense. The defense held the Rebels scoreless until the very end of the second quarter. After halftime, both teams made adjustments and traded scores. | ![]() Instagram: newmanathleticsphotos |
The defense was led by senior captain noseguard Henry "Big Hen" Jackson, senior cornerback Archie Casbarian, senior linebacker Corbett "Corvette" Parrino, senior defensive end Ian O'Boyle, and Falgoust at safety. Tackles for loss went to Jackson, junior Alex Roth, Parrino, junior Ben "Stinger" Singer, O'Boyle, and sophomore linebacker AJ Yunusah as they laid it on the line to stymie the Rebels on the ground. Casbarian and O’Boyle also had big sacks, and Casbarian continued his campaign of sniping opponents' PATs and field goals by blocking two PATs for his fourth block of the season. In the end, the Green Machine managed to hold the Rebels to only 19 points.

Due to a cancellation by an opponent of a game originally scheduled for this week, the varsity Greenies enjoy a bye week to heal up and get ready for district play. Meanwhile, the JV team will see its first action of the year in Slidell this afternoon against Pope John Paul II Catholic High School. After the bye, the Greenies will host neighborhood rival The Willow School at Lupin Field on September 26 for an exciting matchup and Homecoming.

Then, on Saturday (9/20), the team will return to Newman’s Gottesman Pool for its first home open meet. | ![]() |
