Football
On Friday (10/3), the Greenies were able to put it all together to convincingly defeat the previously undefeated Riverdale High School 33-13 at Lupin Field. Senior quarterback and captain Jake Randle again shined bright in his third game at the helm, completing 13 of 16 passes for 227 yards passing, including a touchdown to junior wide receiver Hendrix “Drix” Hill. In his busiest receiving night this year, Hill ended with seven receptions and 82 yards receiving. Senior Collier “Stone Cold” Villere brought in three receptions for a team high 108 yards receiving, including a 60-yard long haul stopped just short of the goal line. | ![]() Instagram: @newmanathleticsphotos |

The running lanes really began to open behind the collaborative blocking of the offensive linemen, including senior left tackle Corbett “Corvette” Parrino, senior right guard Henry “Big Hen” Jackson, junior left guard Brady “Baller” Magee, sophomore right tackle Emory “Wolfman” Wolfson, and freshman center Charles “Steady” Jackson. Captain Randle galloped 21 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns, including a 60-yard run to the house. Hill contributed two runs for 28 yards and sophomore Tanner Robert had a 32-yard run of his own. Randle ended up generating 337 yards of total offense for the Greenies’ second win of the season.

Despite Riverdale’s attempts to rally, the defense was stifling and led by seniors Henry Jackson, cornerback Archie Casbarian, safety Jack “Goose” Falgoust, and linebacker Corbett Parrino, each with at least five tackles. |
Henry Jackson and Parrino both had sacks, while Parrino, Casbarian, Ben Singer, and AJ Yunusah recorded tackles for loss. Freshman defensive tackle Hunter Johnson came on to log his first two solo tackles playing defensive tackle. On special teams, senior kicker Falgoust nailed a career-long 44-yard field goal and both PATs, while Casbarian continued his dominance in defending kicks with another important block. | ![]() Instagram: @newmanathleticsphotos |
Defeating two previously unbeaten teams greatly improved the team’s standing, with Newman improving to become the fourth-best team in the statewide Division III power rankings, the key factor in eventual playoff seeding. The Greenies now go into a bye week to rest and heal up for the remaining four games of the regular season, all district games.
Next up is Walter L. Cohen High School in an away game on Thursday, October 16 at 7pm at Pan American Stadium. This game is the Greenies’ first district contest of the season, so attendance and participation is critically important to continuing the winning streak. Bring a crew and come out and support the Greenies!

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team faced a tough E.D. White Catholic High School squad last Tuesday (9/30). After dropping the first set, the Greenies battled back to take the second and even tied the match 1-1. The Cardinals’ experience and strong front line ultimately proved to be the difference, as they held off Newman in the next two hard-fought final sets. | ![]() Instagram: newmanathleticsphotos |
Despite the loss, the varsity group showed resilience and poise under pressure. The team now stands at 14–5 overall and is currently ranked No. 3 in the Division IV statewide power rankings.

Varsity Sports Now, September 30, 2025
For the junior varsity teams, it was a great weekend of competition at the St. Joseph’s Academy Tournament, featuring some of the top junior varsity programs in the state. JV Green delivered an outstanding performance, earning strong wins over St. Joseph’s Academy and The Dunham School before narrowly missing a spot in the championship after a close battle with Mount Carmel Academy. The team showed great composure and toughness throughout, proving they can compete at the highest level.
For its part, JV White may have come up short in the win column, but its level of play was impressive. The JV White girls went toe-to-toe with Teurlings Catholic High School, St. Joseph’s Academy, and Vandebilt Catholic High School, challenging each opponent and even tying 22–22 before falling to eventual champion St. Joseph’s Academy. The experience against elite competition will no doubt pay off as the team continues to grow and refine its game.
This Week Ahead
Tuesday: JV Green and Varsity will host Ursuline Academy at home in the Palaestra today, starting at 4:30pm with Varsity to follow.
Wednesday: JV White travels to Covington High School tomorrow for a Northshore League tournament. The squad will play Fontainebleau High School at 5pm and Covington High School at 5:45pm.
Thursday: JV Green and Varsity take on Lakeshore High School at home in the Palaestra, starting at 4:30pm, with Varsity to follow.
Swimming
The swim team did not have a meet this past week, so it is gearing for the closing of the regular season. There are just a few more meets before the District Meet and of course, the grand finale State Meet.
The next meet is at home at the Gottesman Pool this Saturday, October 11, at 10:30am. This meet is the last opportunity to see the Greenies at home in the regular season, so come out and support the swimmers. Good luck Greenies!

Cross Country
The cross country team took a well-deserved break from competition last weekend, and will be off this weekend as well. The runners will be back on the course the following Saturday (10/18) at City Park when Newman hosts the Randy Zell Cross Country Classic. Run Greenies Run! | ![]() Instagram: newman_track_xc |
