Go Greenies!

Football

The Greenies got a big Homecoming and Senior Night win last Friday, defeating Martin Luther King (MLK) Charter 47-12. It was Newman’s most balanced offensive effort of the season. Six different players scored. The team passed for over 200 yards and ran for 180 yards. Junior Quarterback Eli Friend spread the love, tossing TD passes to Sophomore Wide Receiver George Loop and Seniors D.J. Thomas, Will Loerzel, and Anthony Jones. Senior Running Back Seth Perrilliat had his best game of the season, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown. Greenie Nation was thrilled to see Sophomore RB Jake Randle return from injury to add 44 yards rushing and a TD of his own. Senior Placekicker Jacob Dusansky made all 6 PATs and a field goal.

For the Greenie Defense, Senior Middle Linebacker Bobby Kerrigan also returned to action and led the team in tackles (9). Senior OLB Isaiah Grant added a sack plus 2 TFLs, and the DB duo of James Reiss and Jack Nesser had a pair of interceptions.

The win moved Newman to 8-0 on the season, setting the table for an epic battle with undefeated St. Charles Catholic in LaPlace on Friday. The District 10-2A Championship is on the line, as well as a possible #1 seed in the Select Division III playoffs. Please make the road trip to LaPlace to support your Greenies!

Volleyball

What an incredible volleyball season for the Newman Greenies.  JV White won their last match of the season against Chalmette High School (2-0).  JV White and JV Green have wowed us all season with their volleyball skills and school spirit.  Thank you to both teams for an exciting season.  We look forward to seeing what next year holds for these great players.

On Tuesday, October 24th, we celebrated our Seniors, Ella Faliveno, Carolyn Rushing, Trecia Stanford, and Chandler Gaudin prior to the game against The Dunham School, from Baton Rouge, LA, where both JV Green and Varsity won their matches. Unfortunately, on Thursday, October 26th, JV Green and Varsity took losses against Dutchtown High School, Dutchtown, LA, which was their last regular season game.

Congratulations to Varsity for winning District and ending their season with an impressive 33-7 record, landing them the #1 seed for the playoffs. The first playoff game will be Wednesday, November 1st at 5:00pm in the Palaestra against South Plaquemines.

Note that tickets to the Wednesday playoff game against South Plaquemines will cost $5, and everyone (students, faculty, family, fans, and GNW Club members) must pay to enter (this is a LHSAA rule).

Thank you to all the parents, students, faculty administrators, and teachers who have supported Newman Volleyball this season.  As we enter the playoff weeks, we look forward to your continued support.  Wear your green and let’s pack the Palaestra!!!  We look forward to seeing you in the stands.
