Football

The Greenies visited Joe Brown Stadium in New Orleans East on Thursday (10/24) for a District 10-2A matup with Sarah T. Reed Senior High School.

The Green Machine set the tone in the first quarter when Corbett Parrino recovered a fumble on the Olympians’ first drive. Quarterback Eli Friend capitalized with a 14-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Charles Wilson. After another defensive stop, Jake Randle scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run, bringing the score to 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

After another defensive stop, the punt return unit was able to block the punt and Tanner Robert recovered the blocked punt for a touchdown. Another stop later, the offense capped off a nice drive with a 6-yard rush by Friend for the touchdown to make it 28-0. The defense stopped the Olympians again when James Reiss intercepted the ball late in the second quarter. As the second quarter clock wound down, Jack “Goose” Falgoust nailed a 30-yard field goal to give the Greenies a 31-0 halftime lead.

To start the third quarter, the offense put together a nice drive that was capped off with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Friend to Wilson. After another stop and punt by the Olympians, the offense moved the ball to the 39 and called on Falgoust to kick a 39-yard field goal, capping the team’s total at 41 points.

The second team took over for the remainder of the night. While the Olympians were able to muster a single touchdown, the special teams defenders blocked the point after attempt, holding Reed’s score to six for the evening. With four minutes remaining, Joshua Chaney finished off the game with an interception.  The final score: Newman 41-6.

Friend completed 10 of 17 passes for 147 yards and two passing touchdowns, along with four rushing attempts for 52 yards and a rushing touchdown. Randle ended with 10 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown.  Wilson led the receiving corps with four receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

The Green Machine locked down the Olympians all night.  Solo tackles for loss and sacks were logged by Justin Wells, Henry Jackson, and Atticus LafleurReiss led the defense with five solo tackles. The punt return and point-after-touchdown defense units each blocked kicks to add some razzle dazzle by the special teams.
