Volleyball

It was a memorable week for Newman volleyball program as Varsity captured the district championship in dominant fashion. The Greenies swept Walter L. Cohen High School and Academy of the Sacred Heart in straight sets before taking down John Curtis Christian School in a thrilling three-set match to clinch the district title. The team’s focus, energy, and execution showed why it has been among the state’s top programs all season.

Newman Greenies: District Champions!

Last night was a special night on campus in the Palaestra as the Greenies celebrated Senior Night in front of a packed house. Both the JV and Varsity teams earned wins over Berwick High School in straight sets, adding another highlight to a season already full of memorable moments. It was the perfect way to honor the seniors who have been the heart of the program, leading with effort and example both on and off the court: Caroline Beahm, Nola Borges, Mignon Evans, Jessica Lambert, Genevieve Plaisance, LeiLani Reid, and Jailly Vance. A special thanks to all the Green and White Club members who attended!

This Week Ahead

The Greenies will close out the regular season on Thursday night at Dutchtown High School in Geismar, taking on one of the strongest programs in the state. These final matches will be JV Green’s last of the season and serve as an important preparation for Varsity heading into the postseason.

Looking Ahead

The playoff brackets will be released on Monday (11/3), and Newman is set to host the first two rounds of the playoffs at home next week. Fans are encouraged to pack the gym and support the Greenies as they begin their postseason run. It’s been a tremendous regular season, and the best is yet to come.

Football

The football team captured its fourth consecutive victory in convincing fashion last Friday (10/27) at Lupin Field against district opponent Sarah T. Reed High School on Senior Night. In the first play from scrimmage senior captain quarterback Jake Randle tossed the ball behind the line of scrimmage to junior Ren Guidry, who launched a 59-yard strike to senior captain receiver George Loop for an opening play touchdown.

The Greenies would rack up 41 points by halftime, adding 14 more in the second half to finish off the Olympians by a final score of 55-14.

Randle would end the night with seven completions on 10 attempts for 61 yards passing and two passing touchdowns. He connected with junior Hendrix Hill for a one-yard receiving touchdown in the first quarter and added a 10-yard touchdown pass to Loop in the second quarter for Loop’s second touchdown reception of the night.

Randle would also lead the Greenies in rushing with five attempts for 85 yards and two first half touchdowns, including 48-yarder. The captain would account for 146 total yards and four touchdowns before he took a bow and handed over the reins at halftime. To cap off the second quarter, sophomore Tanner Robert returned an Olympians kickoff to the house on a 65-yard touchdown return, a first for Robert and the team this season.

Guidry would take over at quarterback in the second half with running time and completed five of five passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns on the night. Following his first quarter touchdown on the double pass, he connected with wide receiver Hendrix Hill for Hill’s second touchdown reception of the night, and a fourth quarter bomb to sophomore Patrick Dugan for a 45-yard touchdown.

Senior kicker Will Pinkerton added six PATs, and freshman kicker Pablo Gonzalez successfully kicked his first PAT of his career. Pinkerton also pinned the Olympians deep with nine strong kickoffs, including five touchbacks.

The Green Machine Defense corralled any attempts by the Olympians to get an offensive attack going all game long. In the first half, senior captain and noseguard Henry Jackson led the defense with a sack and a tackle for loss (TFL) along with multiple tackles by the seniors Jack Falgoust, Corbett Parrino, Archie Casbarian, and Ian O’Boyle.

Tackles were also logged by Alex Roth, Calvin Drake, and AJ Yunusah. JB Lawrence had a tackle and also came up with a clutch interception. The Olympians were able to elude a single coverage for a breakaway long touchdown, but the remainder of their offensive efforts were futile in the first half.

In the second half, the second team and freshman got their shot and showed their stuff with lots of new faces getting in on the action. Emeric Laborde, Brunson Morris, Ford Summerour, Hunter Johnson, Eli Koretsky, Miller Haynes, Charles Feirn, Hunter Conway, Charles Johnson, and Jace Irving all logged tackles for a great team D effort on the night.

Seniors Henry Jackson, Jake Randle, Calvin Drake, Archie Casbarian, Corbett Parrino, George Loop, Collier Villere, Ian O’Boyle, Jack Falgoust, Will Pinkerton, Eliana Hermann, and Georgia Biever on Senior Night!

The Greenies are at home on this Thursday at 7pm as they face their mortal foes from down Palmetto Street, Metairie Park Country Day School. The Cajuns and their high-scoring run and shoot RPO offense are 5-3 on the season and coming off a close loss to South Plaquemines High School.

Bring your whole crew and fill the stands to support our Greenies in this important bragging rights for the year match up.

Let’s Geaux Greenies!
