Volleyball

Last Week

It was another dominant week for Greenies volleyball, as the teams swept both Ursuline Academy of New Orleans and Lakeshore High School. The JV squads continued their consistent play, setting the tone early in each match with sharp serving, solid defense, and excellent communication. Varsity followed suit, earning straight-set victories against the Lions (25-12, 25-7, 25-15) and the Titans (25-15, 25-13, 25-14), and maintaining their No. 3 ranking in the LHSAA Division IV power rankings here. The varsity team’s balanced attack and focus have been clear strengths as it continues to gain momentum heading into a busy stretch of the season.

This Week Ahead

It’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting weeks of the year for Newman volleyball. On Tuesday, JV White travels to John Curtis Christian School in River Ridge for a match at 4:30pm.

Then on Wednesday (10/15), JV Green and Varsity will take on crosstown rival Academy of the Sacred Heart at Newman. This matchup always brings energy, and Sacred Heart is expected to fill the Fitzgerald-Skertich Arena with their fans. If you’ve been waiting for a match to attend, this match is the one! Both teams are playing excellent volleyball, and a loud, supportive Newman crowd can make a real difference.

On Friday and Saturday, Newman will host the annual Newman Invitational Tournament (NIT), featuring some of the top programs in the state. Varsity will play on Friday at 5pm and 7pm, with additional matches on Saturday depending on results. Over the years, the NIT has grown into one of Louisiana’s premier high school volleyball tournaments, showcasing elite competition from across the state. It’s also a great opportunity to see high-level volleyball right here at home and to cheer on our Greenies as they continue to prove themselves among the best in Louisiana. Good luck Greenies!

Swimming

On Saturday (10/11), the swim team competed at home and delivered amazing results, continuing its strong start to the season with impressive swims across the board.

In the Girls 200 Freestyle, senior captain Morgan Breaux ’26 and Charlotte Norwood ’27 led the way, taking the top two finishes in a fast race that set the tone for the meet.

Newman dominated the 100 Freestyle, sweeping the top five spots. Captain Vivian Zhou ’26 took first place, followed by Norwood ’27, Breaux ’26, Frances Mann ’27, and Lily Dravid ’27.
