Cross Country

This past Friday, our Varsity team participated in the Regional Championship at City Park. All 14 Varsity runners (girls and boys) finished in the top 20, qualifying each runner for State.

The Newman boys Varsity team placed 1st overall and Newman girls Varsity came in 2nd. Sam Haber and Ava Hartman placed 1st in their individual races.

The Cross Country team will be in Natchitoches, Louisiana on Monday, November 13th for the XC State Meet at NSU. Girls run at 9:45 a.m. and boys run at 12:00 p.m.

Go Greenies!

Football

The Greenies lost to St. Charles Catholic in LaPlace on Friday, finishing the regular season at 8-1. The 2023 Newman squad played one of the toughest schedules in recent memory, defeating two 5A teams (Hahnville and Benton), two 4A teams (Belle Chasse and De La Salle), and the defending Division III Non-Select Champions (Many), and earned the #3 seed in the upcoming Division III Select playoffs. Click here for the playoff bracket.

Because Newman has a first round bye, the Greenies are off this Friday and plan to play their first playoff game at home on Friday, November 17 against the winner of Northlake Christian and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Swimming

Following a successful District Meet, Newman swimmers used their week off from competition to prepare for the LHSAA State Swim Meet in Sulphur, Louisiana on November 15-16. Lifts, dryland practice and, of course, many laps in the pool, were the order of the week.

Next week brings more preparation and a State send-off dinner before the journey to the SPAR Aquatic Facility

Volleyball

Cajun Dome bound!!! The Newman Varsity played their first playoff game on Wednesday, November 1st in the Palaestra against South Plaquemines High School, Plaquemines, Louisiana, winning their match in 3 sets.  Their second playoff game was Friday, November 3rd in the Palaestra against Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy, Youngsville, LA, and again won their match in 3 sets.

On Wednesday, November 8th, Newman will travel to Lafayette, Louisiana, for the State Playoffs in the Cajun Dome at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  The quarter-final game will be Thursday, November 9th at 10:50am, Newman vs. Thomas Jefferson High School, Gretna, Louisiana.  The semi-final game is Friday, November 10th at 1:40pm and the Championship is Saturday, November 11th at 11:30am.  Come support your Greenies in Lafayette or live stream through NFHS Network.

Congratulations to these coaches and players on a job well done! Let’s bring home the Gold!
