Cross Country
The Newman Cross Country team had an incredible finish to the season in Natchitoches, Louisiana at the 2023 XC State Meet. Our girls finished 3rd Place overall with Senior Ava Hartman taking home the 1st Place individual title. The boys came home with the Runner-Up Trophy, for the first time since 2015, finishing in 2nd Place overall. The boys had four runners finish in the Top 10! Senior Sam Haber – 2nd Place, Logan DeGruy – 4th Place, Rivers LeLong – 8th Place, and Maslen L’Esperance – 10th Place.
Finally, a big congratulations to Seniors Ava Hartman, Ava Zander, and Myles Barnett who were selected to the LHSAA Academic All State Team!
Way to go, Newman Cross Country!
Football
After an opening round bye, the Football Greenies will host a regional playoff match-up with the St. Thomas Aquinas Falcons at 7:00pm on Friday. The Falcons finished the regular season at 5-5 and won an opening round playoff game against their district 2A-7 rival Northlake Christian, 36-35.
Tickets to the game must be purchased through Newman’s digital box office. All attendees (students, faculty, administration, and Green N White Club members) must buy tickets using this link:

Go Greenies!!
Boys Soccer
The Newman soccer boys season is underway! The boys are scheduled to kick off their season tonight (Tuesday 11/14) at 7pm with a home district match against Thomas Jefferson. Then on Saturday (11/18) at 11:00am, the boys will host the Sarah T. Reed Olympians in another home district match. Go Greenies!
Girls Soccer
The Newman soccer girls will embark on their bid to repeat as state champions this Thursday evening (11/16) with a district match at home against Thomas Jefferson. Then on Tuesday (11/21), the Greenies will host Vandebilt Catholic. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 7pm. Come out and support the Greenies!
Swimming
On Friday night, Greenie swimmers enjoyed a much deserved State Send-Off Dinner at Midway Pizza. After a week of intense training, led by Coaches Scott Robinson and Alison Cransac, the swimmers have only two more practices left before they board the bus for Sulphur on this Tuesday afternoon.
For a second year, Newman will swim in the highly competitive Division III at the LHSAA State Swim Meet. Preliminary, qualifying, events will be held the morning of Wednesday, November 15th. Event finals will be held on Thursday morning, the 16th.
The team has shown so much improvement during the course of the season. They are looking forward to impressive results in both individual events and relays. Go Greenies!
Volleyball
Another volleyball season has come to an end. While not how our players and coaches had hoped for their season to end, it was definitely an impressive season. On last Thursday, November 8, the Greenies faced Thomas Jefferson, from Marrero, Louisiana and swept the game in 3 sets. Unfortunately, Friday was our last game of the season in a tough semi-final match-up against Notre Dame, from Crowley, Louisiana. The girls gave their best and lost in 4 sets. There were tears and compassion as they consoled their teammates and reminded each other of the successful season and a job well done.
Seniors Ella Faliveno and Carolyn Rushing were selected to play on the 2023 East All-Star Volleyball Team at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, November 18th. There are only a handful of girls chosen from the state to play in this game. Congratulations to Ella and Carolyn for being one of the few!
Newman volleyball appreciates the support from its fans throughout the season. Stay tuned for this team next season, as they are stacked for success.
