Greenies Hold Off Central Catholic 8-6 After Big Fourth Inning
On Thursday, the Greenies defeated Central Catholic High School 8–6, using a decisive four-run fourth inning and timely late insurance to secure the win on the road. The Greenies built a seven-run cushion through four innings, then held on after the Eagles’ six-run fifth-inning rally.
Newman broke the game open in the top of the fourth when Atticus Lafleur launched a three-run home run to left field. The inning gave the Greenies full momentum and provided the game’s key offensive swing.

Greenies Take Control Early and Beat East Ascension 7-2
On Friday, Newman defeated East Ascension High School 7–2, building an early lead, pressuring the defense on the bases, and getting another strong start on the mound from Jack Falgoust.
Newman struck first in the opening inning when Christian Sauska doubled and later scored a run. After quiet second and third innings, the Greenies added two runs in the fourth, another in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to pull away from the Spartans. Malcolm Schairer led the offense with two hits and three RBI, while Newman made the most of five hits through aggressive baserunning, walks, and hit batters.
The Greenies created havoc on the bases all game. Falgoust stole three bases, while George Loop and Schairer each stole two. Atticus Lafleur, Ben Singer, and Collier Villere also added stolen bases as the Greenies consistently applied pressure.
At the plate, Sauska and Lafleur each scored twice. Charles Wilson added a single and George Loop drove in a run while continuing to pressure the defense.
Greenies Rally Twice But Fall 7-6 on Walk-Off to Erath
On Saturday, Newman dropped a tightly contested 7–6 game to Erath High School after carrying leads in multiple innings before the Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win. The Greenies produced six runs on six hits and again generated offense through timely doubles and pressure on the bases.
Erath scored first in the opening inning, but Newman answered immediately with a three-run second. Atticus Lafleur doubled during the inning, Peter Barras added a run-scoring double, and the Greenies took a 3–1 lead. Erath responded with two runs in the third to tie the game.

Softball
The softball team kicked off its season last month, entering the campaign with high expectations as they look to build off last season that saw the team finish with a 14-8 record, win district and make a nice playoff push. With a line up loaded with several returning starters and the addition of new talent, the 2026 season looks to be an exciting one. Team captains Alyse Dulitz, Jesse Lambert and Sydney Able will lead the Greenies as they will be looking to defend their district title while navigating through a very challenging non-district schedule.

The Greenies (2-3) have played five games so far, defeating Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School and De La Salle High School and seeing competitive losses to strong programs from St. James High School, Ascension Catholic High School, and Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy.
Greenies Crush Bonnabel on a Combined No Hitter
The season opener saw Newman totally overpower Bonnabel (Class 5A) in the season opener at The Fly. The game resulted in a combined no-hitter from the three Newman pitchers as the Greenies easily cruised to the 18-0 victory. Maryn Huber, Jesse Lambert and Sydney Able each dominated in the circle, each pitching an inning and striking out three batters while allowing no hits. The offense was also led by Lambert, who went 3-3 with five RBI. Camille Beard, Hollier Sutherlin and Maddox Bazley also helped the offense with timely hitting and driving in runs to pace the offensive explosion.
St. James Beats Greenies in Slugfest
Game two of the season was a two-and-a-half-hour heartbreaking slugfest that went back and forth but finally resulted in 14-12 loss to a very good St. James team. The Greenies collected 15 hits and scored 12 runs, but it simply wasn’t enough to defeat the talented Wildcats.
The Wildcats were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored two runs, and added to their early lead in the top of the second inning with two more runs. The Greenies flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs on seven hits to take the lead, 6-5. Senior captain Sydney Able started the inning off with a leadoff triple but the biggest blow was a double by Madison Able that drove in two. | ![]() Instagram: @newmansoftball |
Catcher Felicity Drake broke the tie in the fourth with a single, scoring two runs. A double by Maryn Huber followed to extend the lead to 9-6. St. James answered in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, and ultimately prevailed 14-12.
Drake and Jesse Lambert were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three of the 15 hits by the Greenies in the game. Sydney Able, Madison Able, and Hollier Sutherlin also had multiple hits, and the team amassed nine walks and stole four bases. In the circle, Huber struck out five.
Highly-Ranked Bulldogs Best Greenies 13-3
The Greenies’ third game was against a very tough Ascension Catholic team. Though Newman fell 13-3, the game was much closer than the final score indicated.
The Greenies got on the board in the top of the first inning after Sydney Able, Madison Able and Jesse Lambert found a way on, which allowed Felicity Drake to plate a run with a walk. Newman scored two more runs after Maryn Huber was struck by a pitch, and Alyse Dulitz walked, taking a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs jumped back into the lead in the second inning with a double to center field, a single down the right field line, and a Newman error, and they proceeded to score five runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maryn Huber led things off in the circle for the Greenies, striking out three. Lambert led the Greenies offense with two hits in three at bats, getting help from Madison Able, Maddox Bazley and Dulitz, who each had a hit.
