Indoor Track and Field

Junior standout Jada Recasner delivered an outstanding performance at the McNeese State High School Indoor II meet on Saturday (1/31) showcasing speed and resilience across a demanding slate of events. Recasner opened with a personal-best 7.77 in the 55-meter dash, placing 10th out of 67 in a tough field. After qualifying for the semifinals, she wisely conserved energy to focus on the hurdles.

That decision paid off in big way: she ran 9.28 in the 55m hurdles prelims, dropped to 9.00 in the semis, and clocked a new school-record 8.98 to finish second overall. Despite the heavy racing load, Recasner also competed in the triple jump, placing 9th out of 19 athletes.

The team now heads into the LSU Last Chance Meet at Maddox Field House this Saturday (2/7) with one more chance to compete, improve, and qualify for the Indoor State Championships on February 21. The best is still ahead.

Lacrosse

The lacrosse team hit the road for their first preseason game in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to play St. Stanislaus High School, where the Greenies prevailed 15-2 and had some field-testing time against a developing lacrosse program. William Long started the scoring with an assist from Price DeMeyers, who earned the most points scored. Long, Luke Whelan and Ezra Friend all contributed multiple goals and several players found field time against the Rock-a-Chaws.

The defense did not get tons of action but goalkeeper Emeric Laborde had a couple great saves, Edge Levine halted an attack, and Corbett Parrino was willing and able, stepping up to snag a ball and run it up to midfield for an assist.

Next up, the boys will be in Baton Rouge for a scrimmage with Catholic High School and then they will take on Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie next Tuesday (2/10).

Boys Basketball

The month of January may not have produced the results the boys basketball players were hoping for, as the Greenies ended the month with a 49-66 loss to Terrebonne High School on VSN here.

Inside the locker room, however, the Greenies understand they are continuing to grow, learn, and compete at a high level. Coaches and players are emphasizing tightening defensive rotations, looking for advantage shots, and playing with greater consistency for all four quarters. The work being put in during practice reflects a group determined to turn lessons into wins. As February begins, the Greenies know how they respond now will say far more about who they are than any single stretch in January.

This evening (2/3), the boys will host Belle Chasse High School in the Palaestra on VSN here at 7pm, followed by an away game on Thursday (2/5) against Maurepas High School and a home matchup against St. John School on Saturday afternoon at 2pm. Come out and support the basketball boys!

Girls Soccer

Last Tuesday (1/27), the girls soccer team shut out Northlake Christian School (9-4-3) at home on VSN here, controlling the match from start to finish. After relentless pressure and twelve shots on goal, the Greenies opened the scoring with ten minutes left in the first half when CC Loerzel set up Sara Córdova off a corner tap. The Greenies added to the lead in the second half as Córdova delivered a perfect cross that Loerzel finished to make it 2–0. Another strong corner kick, this time from Summerour, resulted in a Loerzel header for the third goal, and with five minutes remaining, Alyse Dulitz assisted Eleanor Robinson to seal the 4–0 victory over the Wolverines.

Two nights later, the girls faced St. Scholastica Academy (10-5-5), a top team in Division II. The first half remained scoreless with the Greenies generating three scoring attempts to Doves’ two. Both teams finished with six shots overall, but strong defensive play and goalkeeping on each side kept the match deadlocked through full time, and match ended as a scoreless draw.

Last night (2/2), University Laboratory School (U-High) (11-2-3) traveled to Newman’s field for the final regular-season match on VSN here. After a scoreless first half filled with multiple scoring attempts, the Cubs struck first with a breakaway goal early in the second half. Newman quickly answered when CC Loerzel delivered a precise pass to Eleanor Robinson, who finished to tie the match 1–1 with 25 minutes remaining. An intense closing stretch featured several fouls and two yellow cards issued to U-High, but neither team could find a late winner, and the game ended in a 1–1 draw.

With the result, the girls finished the regular season at 9-7-3, the #6 power-ranked team in Division IV. With the playoff brackets released today here, Greenies will host the 27th seed, North Caddo High School (7-7-1) from Vivian, Louisiana, in a first round playoff game on Friday (2/6) at 6pm. Tickets, which are required for all attendees under LHSAA rules, will be available for purchase here.

Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team is excited to compete in this week’s district playoff games as the #1 seed.

Last week, the team had two games. On Tuesday (1/27), despite impressive scoring by Jordin Daniels, Piper Christian, and Madison Williams, with additional baskets made by Breigha Leal, Katherine Aucoin, Kiyari Ivey, Sophia Mills, and Amari Jones, the team had a frustrating loss against a strong team from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, losing 41-58.

Fortunately, on Friday (1/30), the team bounced back in a thrilling victory against Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies, winning 48-36.

Williams was responsible for an amazing 20 points, which included four three-pointers. Daniels added 15 more points, including two three-pointers. Ivey and Christian also made baskets, including a three-pointer by Ivey.

The district tournament hosted by Metairie Park Country Day School takes place this week. On Thursday (2/5) at 5pm, the team plays its district semifinal game against the winner of the game between the Cajuns and St. Mary’s Academy. The district final game is Friday (1/6) at 6pm.

Good luck to the team, and fingers crossed for a District Championship!

Boys Soccer

Last Tuesday (1/27), the boys soccer team (10-3-2) hosted Northlake Christian School (14-4-2) in a battle between the top two power-ranked teams in Division IV on Varsity Sports Now here. Both teams showcased their formidable defenses with strong pressure on the ball, including a courageous save by goalkeeper Henry Houghton on a dangerous opportunity by the Wolverines midway through the second half.

Varsity Sports Now, January 27, 2026

The Greenies midfield controlled the game in the second half and linked up with the attack to create promising opportunities to score, but the Wolverines defense held on to earn a 0-0 draw. With the tie, Newman and Northlake Christian maintained their #1 and #2 divisional power rankings, respectively.

After Saturday’s game against Northlake High School in Slidell was cancelled due to cold weather conditions, the boys closed out the regular season with a home matchup last night on VSN here against University Laboratory School (U-High) (15-3-1), the top-ranked team in Division III. Again the Greenies defense shined, with a strong backline and goalkeepers Archie Casbarian and Henry Houghton shutting down a Cubs offense that had won its last six games and scored 72 goals in the regular season. Unfortunately for the Greenies attack, the Cubs defense was equally as strong, and both teams settled for another 0-0 draw.

With the result, the boys finished the regular season at 10-3-4, the top power-ranked team in Division IV and earning home field advantage throughout the playoffs. With the playoff brackets released today here, the Greenies will host Delta Charter School (6-17-2) from Ferriday, Louisiana in a first round playoff game tomorrow (2/4) at 6:30pm. Tickets, which are required for all attendees under LHSAA rules, will be available for purchase here.
