On Friday, one day after the team hosted families and alumni for a crisp practice and walkthrough on Thanksgiving morning, the Greenies hosted The Dunham School of Baton Rouge in Division III Select quarterfinal game on VSN here at Michael Lupin Field. It would be a hard fought, but unsuccessful effort to reach the state championship, ending Coach Aaron Vice’s inaugural season with an impressive record of 7-3. | ![]() Instagram: @lhsaa_official |
Upon winning the coin toss, the Greenies captains chose to receive the initial kickoff but the offense was stopped on the first drive on a 4th and 1 at midfield. Dunham’s acclaimed five-star junior quarterback proceeded to lead his team to two touchdowns in the first quarter, including three fourth-down conversions.
The Greenies rallied in the second quarter when senior kicker Will Pinkerton nailed a beautiful 44-yard field goal from the right hashmark to put the Greenies on the board 14-3.

The Tigers responded with two more scores generated by their talented quarterback, but the Greenies never quit. Midway through the second quarter, junior Hendrix Hill got the Greenies back in the game with a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown.

The offense was also able to put together a 13-play, 76-yard drive that culminated in a 4th-and-12 touchdown pass with just seconds left in the half on a reverse by senior Collier Villere to Hill, bringing the score at half to 27-16.

The second half held more of the same, as the Greenies fought hard but couldn’t overcome the Tigers’ prolific offense. Quarterback Jake Randle would connect one last time with his favorite target, fellow captain and senior wide receiver George Loop, for a touchdown late in the third quarter, making the final score 48-22.
On the other side of the ball, the Green Machine Defense battled all night long and did log a few sacks and TFLs. In the end, though, there was no answer for the Tigers’ 6’5, 220-pound quarterback.
Randle ended the night 24 of 42 passing for 286 yards a one touchdown, while Loop logged 12 receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown. Villere threw a touchdown and caught five passes for 81 yards, while Hill had seven catches for 78 yards and the two touchdowns. | ![]() Instagram: @newmanathleticsphotos |
On the season, Randle accounted for 1,759 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns and 793 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, giving him all-purpose production of 2,552 yards and 35 touchdowns in ten games.
Congratulations to the graduating seniors for their efforts and leadership this year (from left to right): Captain George Loop, Captain Jake Randle, Archie Casbarian, Collier Villere, Captain Henry Jackson, Calvin Drake, Jack Falgoust, Ian O’Boyle, Will Pinkerton, and Corbett Parrino.

![]() Instagram: @newmangirlssoccer | The Greenies delivered a dominant performance against St. Michael the Archangel High School from Baton Rouge last Tuesday (11/25) on Lupin Field, opening with relentless pressure and finishing to take a commanding lead by halftime. The scoring began 21 minutes in when CC Loerzel sent an assist to captain Lili Arjmand, who buried the first goal of the match. Minutes later, Arjmand struck again, this time on a beautiful header served in by captain Sara Córdova. |
The momentum continued as Susu Milling delivered a long ball from the back line, setting up Arjmand’s third goal and completing her first hat trick of the season. Just before the break, Córdova fed another dangerous ball to Arjmand, whose shot was deflected by the keeper but cleaned up by Ann Schonberg, giving the Greenies a 4–0 advantage over the Warriors at halftime.

The second half saw the Greenies maintain their control, sealing the match with a fifth goal 15 minutes in. Jane Summerour played a well-timed assist to Arjmand, who finished to make it 5–0 and tally her fourth score of the night. With strong possession, disciplined defense, and standout offensive execution, the Greenies secured another impressive home victory over the Warriors, continuing their early-season momentum.
Yesterday afternoon, the girls played on the road at Division I’s Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville. Though the Greenies held their own against a strong opponent in a tough, defensive matchup, and worked to create a few opportunities against the Bulldogs, they struggled to generate consistent offense, and a single goal proved to be the difference as Newman fell 1–0 in a tightly-played contest.
This weekend, the girls will travel to Lafayette for matches against Loyola College Prep and Lafayette High School. Good luck Greenies!
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team is on a roll, winning all three of its last three games! Before Thanksgiving, the Greenies competed in The Dunham School Tournament in Baton Rouge. On Monday (11/24), the team defeated St. John 53-32. Piper Christian scored an astounding 23 points in the game, while Jordin Daniels scored 17 points, including two three-pointers. Katherine Aucoin, Sophia Mills, and Breigha Leal also made baskets.
The next day (11/25), the team defeated The Dunham School 33-28. Christian scored 13 points, Jessica Taranto scored nine points in her first game of this season, Aucoin scored eight points, and Amari Jones drained a three-pointer.
After Thanksgiving, the team started strong with an exciting home game in the Palaestra against cross-town rival Cabrini High School, emerging victorious 47-29.

The boys basketball team is heading back to the Newman Invitational Tournament (NIT), where it made history as the tournament victor last season, and it’s locked in now for another strong run.
After finishing the Holy Cross School Tournament with one win and three losses, the Greenies now sit at 2–3 overall, having gained valuable experience and showing flashes of the tough, resilient basketball of which this young group is capable. With hungry underclassmen stepping up early in the year and the team committed to bouncing back, expect a focused and fired-up Greenie team ready to defend their crown.

![]() Instagram: media.by.hhh | Last night (12/2), after a week of no matches and some intense training, the Greenies (2-0) had their first real challenge of the season in a chilly home match against Archbishop Shaw High School. In a tightly-contested defensive contest, the only score of the game came when freshman Weston Beevers worked his way to the goal line and slotted a beautiful left-footed pass back to sophomore Joe Morris, whose strong finish beat the Eagles goalkeeper and found the back of the net to seal the victory for the Greenies. |
On Thursday (12/4), the boys are scheduled to play in Slidell against John Paul II Catholic High School, followed by a home game on VSN against Dutchtown High School on Saturday afternoon (12/6) at 1pm. Come out and support the Greenies!
