Haber Leads Greenies to 9-1 Win on Senior Day

On Saturday on VSN here, the Greenies built a 9–1 win over visiting H.L. Bourgeois High School piece by piece, using disciplined at-bats, aggressive baserunning, and dominant pitching to control the game from start to finish.

Newman struck first in the bottom of the first. Charles Wilson singled to start the rally, and Christian Sauska followed with a line-drive RBI single to center field to bring him home and give Newman a 1–0 lead. The Greenies extended the lead in the second inning with impact hitting. Jack Falgoust drove a triple to right field, scoring Malcolm Schairer and George Loop to push the lead to 3–0.

While the offense built the advantage, senior Henry Haber controlled the game on the mound. The Braves threatened early, putting runners in scoring position, but Haber worked out of trouble and, with help from the defense, kept them off the board.

The game broke open in the fifth inning as Schairer reached base, Loop delivered an RBI single, Tanner Robert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, Falgoust added an RBI single, and Wilson worked a bases-loaded walk to cap the inning and extend the lead to 9–0.

Defensively, Wilson and shortstop Collier Villere teamed up to throw out two would-be base stealers, shutting down the Braves’ running game and eliminating multiple scoring threats.

Schairer’s strong arm on a bloop single to right field also cut down a runner at home to end the inning.

On the mound, Haber earned the win with five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out two and consistently working out of any early pressure.

Loop entered in relief and closed the final two innings, allowing just one run while continuing to attack the zone and generate routine outs to secure the win.

Prior to the game, the baseball program honored the team’s six exceptional seniors and their parents: Jack Falgoust, Henry Haber, George Loop, Christian Sauska, Collier Villere and Charles Wilson. Congratulations seniors!

Newman Dominates Bonnabel with Nine-Run Second Inning in 12–2 Win

Before spring break, the boys used a potent second inning and dominant pitching to secure a decisive 12–2 victory over Bonnabel High School at Avenger Field, controlling the game in all phases.

Newman set the tone early, getting on the board in the first when Atticus Lafleur delivered an RBI single to take a 1–0 lead. In the second inning, Newman erupted for nine runs. Jack Falgoust drove in two runs with a key hit, Charles Wilson added an RBI single, and Lafleur worked a bases-loaded walk to bring in another. Newman Controls Game Early, Sauska Dominates in 3-0 Win Over Doyle

On April 1, Newman executed early offense and rode a dominant complete-game performance from Christian Sauska to defeat Doyle High School 3–0 at Avenger Field.

Jack Falgoust sparked a rally in the first inning by reaching base with a line-drive single to center, and Charles Wilson followed with a sharp single to left to put two runners on. With runners on, Atticus Lafleur put the ball in play to bring home the game’s first run. Later in the inning, Collier Villere delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, adding another run and giving Newman a 2–0 lead.

Newman added to its advantage in the third. Falgoust again set the table by reaching base and advancing into scoring position. Lafleur followed with a line-drive single to center field, driving in Falgoust to extend the lead to 3–0.

From that point forward, the game belonged to Sauska. The Fighting Tigers managed only one hit over seven innings and never mounted a sustained scoring threat.

The senior consistently won key counts and closed the game in the seventh by recording two strikeouts and a fly out to seal the shutout.

Behind the plate, Charles Wilson threw out runners attempting to steal second base in the second and third innings.

Those throws marked Wilson’s 15th and 16th runners caught stealing this season.

Newman Pulls Away with Explosive Third, Defeats St. Martin’s 13–8

Last week on VSN here, Newman turned an early deficit into a controlled win, using a decisive third inning to defeat St. Martin’s Episcopal School 13–8 at Avenger Field.

After falling behind in the opening frame, Newman answered in the bottom of the first and steadily built pressure over the next two innings. The breakthrough came in the bottom of the third. Following a walk by Tanner Robert and a base hit from Jack Falgoust, Charles Wilson delivered the biggest swing of the game, driving a two-run triple into the gap to break the game open. Newman continued to capitalize on additional opportunities, pushing the lead to 6–2 behind key RBIs from Atticus Lafleur and Benjamin Singer.

Newman’s pitching staff matched the offense. Christian Sauska worked through traffic and struck out eight over four innings. Collier Villere bridged the middle innings, and Jack Falgoust recorded the final five outs to secure the win.

Wilson’s Three-Run Homer Highlights Newman’s Rout of South Plaquemines

On Wednesday, Newman delivered a dominant, all-around performance against South Plaquemines High School behind a relentless offensive surge and efficient pitching.

Newman struck immediately in the bottom of the first, with Malcolm Schairer delivering a run-scoring single to bring in two. George Loop followed by reaching and extending the inning, setting up additional scoring opportunities. With runners in scoring position, Benjamin Singer lifted a sacrifice fly to center to add another run, as Newman capitalized on free passes and controlled at-bats to build an early 5–0 lead.

In the second inning, Newman erupted for ten runs and put the contest out of reach. The inning showcased lineup-wide production, including big hits from Schairer, Loop, and Atticus Lafleur. Charles Wilson provided the biggest moment of the game, launching a three-run home run to left field to extend the lead decisively. He also added a double, finishing a strong offensive performance. Henry Haber also contributed with an RBI single as Newman continued to capitalize on traffic created by walks and hit-by-pitches.

Newman Beats Country Day with Execution and Depth in 8-2 Victory

On Friday, Newman built an 8–2 win over Metairie Park Country Day School using disciplined at-bats, aggressive baserunning, and consistent strike-throwing to control the game from start to finish.

In the first inning, Jack Falgoust reached base and advanced into scoring position, and Atticus Lafleur delivered a double to center field, driving him home for the game’s first run. Newman extended the lead in the third when Collier Villere lined a two-out single to right, scoring Christian Sauska. George Loop sparked the middle innings by stealing second after reaching base, then scored on Falgoust’s sacrifice bunt. Malcolm Schairer added a line-drive single to score Villere, and singles from Falgoust and Charles Wilson kept the offense rolling.

On the mound, Falgoust dominated for six innings, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out five. Collier Villere closed the seventh with three strikeouts to seal the win.

Newman Closes Out Regular Season in Mandeville with 13th Straight Win

Last night against Mandeville High School, Greenies ace Christian Sauska delivered a dominant performance on the mound, striking out eight while allowing just three singles. Despite surrendering two early runs, the senior right-hander settled in beautifully, shutting down the potent Skippers lineup.

The Greenies capitalized on Mandeville’s generosity, drawing nine walks and benefiting from five hit batters for a total of 14 free passes.

With the score tied 2-2 in the seventh, Malcolm Schairer laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases with no outs. Junior George Loop was then hit by a pitch for the third time to score a run. He also had two RBIs and a stolen base. Collier Villere earned the win in relief, his third of the season.

Lacrosse

The lacrosse team’s Senior Night at Michael Lupin Field earlier this month could not have been scripted any better. Under perfect April skies on VSN here, the Greenies put on a show worthy of the occasion, powering past the Ascension Pelicans Lacrosse Club 19–5 in a game that featured scoring fireworks, milestone moments, and contributions from every corner of the roster.

Instagram: @newmanathleticsphotos

On a night honoring seniors Price DeMeyers, William Long, Christopher Connolly, Corbett Parrino, Jackson Fitzpatrick, James Kuuskraa, Deacon Maxwell, and Henry Curran, Newman’s offense came out humming, with nine different players finding the back of the net, turning the night into a full‑team celebration.

The highlight that brought the biggest roar was from freshman Phillip Mahfouz, who buried his first varsity goal, finishing a gorgeous feed from Ezra Friend that had the sideline erupting. Speaking of freshmen, Luke Whelan added two more goals, continuing his steady rise as a clutch finisher. Sophomores made their mark too: Reed Sanford tallied one, and Colin Farnsworth delivered a hat trick, then turned around and dominated the X with seven faceoff wins.

Senior Night stars shined bright as well. Fitzpatrick and long‑pole Parrino each ripped in a goal, and it’s always a crowd favorite when a d‑pole scores. Long added two goals, while DeMeyers and Connolly each poured in four, giving the Greenies a powerful scoring core.

The ball movement was crisp and unselfish all night, led by Ezra Friend, who dished out five assists and scooped four ground balls for good measure. DeMeyers, Whelan, and James Ryan each added an assist as Newman kept the Pelicans chasing.

Defensively, the Greenies were active and disruptive. Parrino and Edge Levine each caused turnovers, while the ground‑ball crew stayed busy: Ryan, Charles Johnson, and Thatcher Angelico each grabbed three, Parrino had two, and Kuuskraa chipped in another.

At the faceoff X, Newman rolled out depth and dominance. Along with Farnsworth’s seven wins, Hunter Johnson and Parker Connolly added four more wins each, Jonah Patrone won one, and Mahfouz capped his big night with another.

Anchoring it all, Emeric Laborde was steady and sharp between the pipes, making nine saves to keep the Pelicans at bay.

From seniors savoring their moment to freshmen stepping into the spotlight, Newman delivered a complete team‑wide performance.
